Madness Blooms

Madness Blooms is an indie duo hovering at the intersection of folk, pop, and rock.

Madness Blooms is an indie duo hovering at the intersection of folk, pop, and rock. Their unique, memorable sound blends lush vocal harmonies with full-voiced acoustic tracks and electronic beats; rich, strong bass supports it all. The group had its origins in a recurring open mic night that Bradford King used to run in a bookstore. Meghan Sinoff, pathological bibliophile, came for the books, but stayed (and returned again and again) for the music. Often one of them would jump in to sing harmony while the other was performing. From the bliss of their joined voices, and in mutual admiration of each other’s songwriting, they formed Madness Blooms.

Madness Blooms eponymous debut album opens with a dark, megalomanical tune, “Own It All,” in which Meghan’s clear vocals interleave with tight electronics. Tracks like “Over” and “All Wrong” hearken back to the open mics that birthed the group, with lyrical sincerity and acoustic guitars floating over the bass. “St. Jerome,” on the other hand, juxtaposes wicked lyrics with sublime, danceable choruses. Collaboration with Terry Mattson brought excellent production to the table, and his talent helped sharpen the recordings into something rare. Thanks to Brad and Meghan’s vision, Terry’s attention, and the expert mastering of Ed Brooks, the tracks form a cohesive whole greater than the sum of its parts.
